OMM Halo+ Waterproof Jacket Review
Fiona is currently using the OMM Halo+ for all her wet weather runs.
I bought the OMM Halo+ at the start of the year ready for my Benfleet 15 race. It was looking cold and miserable so I wanted to be prepared. (It was lovely and sunny on the day!) We have a few waterproofs in store and I wanted to pick something that was lightweight and packed down small. I am a UK size 10 and find the women’s small to be a great fit. The sleeves have a thumb loop that fits perfectly for me and is very comfortable when I run.
I was swayed by the colour way first, im not going to lie. It suits a lot of my running gear so I match 🙂 It is so light. At 120g it really is one of the lightest waterproofs on the market and as I tend not to wear a waterproof unless it is extremely necessary, it does tend to stay in my pack for mandatory kit. I wanted something that folds up very small and would fit in my Salomon 5L Adv Skin pack. I had Race to the Stones in the summer and although it is a summer race a waterproof is mandatory so I needed something that wouldn’t take up too much space. When I do wear this jacket I find I stay dry unless the rain is coming in sideways! It has a 10,000 hydrostatic head rating which is normal for most mandatory kit and fitted my needs. There are jackets with higher ratings but I don’t tend to run in torrential rain. I would say if you do then I would look at a higher rated jacket like the UD V2 which has a 25,000HH rating.
I like the pockets on the OMM, they zip up tight so I can take my gloves and buff. It would be perfect for taking nutrition and keys etc. It does have a hood but not a peak but I liked this feature as I find peaks to be restricting. Im not a huge fan of wearing hoods/hats so tend not to wear this unless necessary.
My main check list for my waterproof jacket was lightweight, stylish and ticked mandatory kit and this jacket does all of these. It is cheaper than a lot of other jackets and ticks the boxes I needed. The quality is awesome with taped seams and durable fabric. I would definitely recommend this jacket. I will have it for many years to come.
